August 2018

August is our month of birthday celebrations and this year was no different.  We kicked things off with Ryan's 39th birthday when Hiroko baked him a chocolate cake (per request) that involved home made icing (by Ryan because he was appalled by the thought of store bought icing) and strawberries for Oren.

Then we were off to the San Juan Islands for a week of rest and relaxation on a farm in Friday Harbor.  Around the island we biked, ate oysters and did some hiking.  On the farm Oren got to pick a lot of blackberries, drive a tractor and ride a horse bare-back!  There was a lot of time for lounging around in the hammock thanks to Naoki's nap schedule.

Grandma came out for a short visit in mid-August and she and the boys went out to Duvall, WA to go blueberry picking.  The rest of the month was spent going around Green Lake multiple times on our bike.  Oren's antics on his bike resulted in many heads turning and often pointing and giggling from the walkers going in the opposite directions.  We are so glad Oren brings smiles to so many faces.

For Hiroko's 37th birthday Ryan made her banana pudding which followed another decadent lobster meal curtesy of the Hosaka/Stone crew.  Luckily Naoki continues to be amused by more than afraid of the live lobsters placed before him!
