March - Seattle is getting warmer and we went to Whistler

March brought warmer and drier weather to Seattle so we spent a lot more time outside with both boys.  The sunny days also brought the spring flowers and Oren became very interested in learning the different flowers' names and trying to smell as many of them as possible.  The crocuses are always the first to come up and Naoki even got to enjoy them as well.  After getting to spend more time on his balance bike Oren became really good at it and started riding everywhere from the elementary school playground to around Wallingford playground.  Naoki is becoming more and more interested in playing with toys and snuggling with his Momo-chan.  He also had his first taste of solid food right before turning 6 months old.  We started with our classic mashed banana.  Naoki was not as interested in eating as Oren had been at this age but he seemed eager to sit in his bumbo and smile. Naoki was totally rocking his "asian troll" hair.

We took our first family trip and somehow we survived.  We drove up to Whistler and did every activity that we could do with a preschooler and infant in tow - which meant no skiing.  But we did get to discover the other parts of Whistler that we had never seen before like the Olympic Park.  Oren and Ryan did some good sledding with the official ski jump slopes as their back drop.  They also went sledding on the slopes of Whistler which involved a gondola ride up to the middle of the mountain.  Oren was so excited about the gondola ride and by then he was over his illogical fear of snow.  Oren went ice skating for the first time - he was very reluctant at first when he found out how slippery it was but after some time with patient Daddy he was able to stand being pulled around the rink while holding on to his "chair".  We also did a horse sleigh ride and Oren danced his heart out to the sound of bells after getting a little toasty drinking hot chocolate.  What did Naoki do?  Well, Naoki just took it all in.
